Infectious hypodermal and hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHHNV) is a single-stranded DNA virus known to infect penaeid shrimp of the penaeid shrimp viruses. IHHNV causes widespread mortality, as high as 90%, in the Western Blue Shrimp (Penaeus stylirostris) and the chronic disease runt-deformity syndrome (RDS) in the Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). RDS is characterised by reduced, irregular growth and cuticular deformities rather than death. IHHNV real time PCR kit contains a specific ready-to-use system for the detection of the IHHNV by polymerase chain reaction in the real-time PCR system. The master mix contains reagents and enzymes for the specific amplification of the IHHNV DNA. Fluorescence is emitted and measured by the real time systems´ optical unit. Kit included with a ready to use DNA extraction buffer and gill or muscle samples are used for the extraction of the DNA. In addition, the kit contains a system to identify possible PCR inhibition by measuring the HEX/VIC/JOE fluorescence of the internal control (IC). An external positive control (1×107copies/ml) contained, allows the determination of the gene load.
